Ode to Summer

Since the summer is coming to a close, and I am only three days away from beginning me final year in college, I thought it only appropriate to showcase my summer highlights.

Beginning with none other than time with my family. This is just a few of us at a Giants game in beautiful San Francisco.
I must say the best part about my summer was welcoming home my Sailor from his third and final deployment. As far as I know there is no better feeling than watching the man you love pull into the dock on that big metal boat, pick you out of a crowd of hundreds and mouth the words I love you.

And there is definitely nothing better than holding him, knowing that this was the last one, and the final year. I am proud of my Sailor and all that he as done. He's one of those people who will always to great things.
But of course, it would be just my luck that on the same day I welcome home my man that my car decides to breakdown-- this was an official Debbie Downer moment. And of course, being the person that I am can't afford to not document the irony of the situation, uniform and all trying to fix my car--sorry your whites got dirty :-/

Despite the fact that this minor thing ruined the day I had planned for us, it was still a moment that highlighted my summer. Now I have two reasons to never forget this day.

Then there was the SD fair, with fun, friends, and lots of fried food :-)

Once again I went home, for about a month to spend time with family and work. The best was spending time with my cousin, who came to visit from Florida. We had our various and random adventures, but we enjoyed all of them.

Driving to the city (on the left) was the beginning of it all. Followed by family parties galore, where, as you can see we always have a good time :-D For us, family is most important, we're all we've got and we try and remember that one family gathering at a time.

I could never leave out our family walks at the marina. Some how this has become somewhat of a summer tradition, it basically works like this: we walk/run, start huffing and puffing because we're all out of shape, finish the exercise, feel accomplished, and then drive to Aunty's where we fill up on very fatty--BUT VERY DELICIOUS--food (Thanks, Aunty!).

The Fourth of July was special for me and "my favorite cousin who is my age" because we realized that in a family as big as ours, we were finally the adults to the younger ones (who, if you take the time to count, outnumber us by a lot). With this in mind, we felt it obviously necessary to christen the moment by trekking out to San Francisco with the whoever was brave enough to be under our "watchful" eyes.

We came, we saw, and we conquered the city--which was insanely crowded--we should have known given the holiday. To our dismay, the city was also getting very cold and foggy, which would be no good for viewing fireworks. So, we left to return home to our older "Pyro" cousin, who generally is in charge of the family firework show.

After a long visit home, with some unexpected jury time, I was finally back in San Diego :-)

So, in a nutshell (a big nutshell) that was summer for me. It was fun, it was long, and it could have been longer ;-)

Wish me luck as I finish my last year of college, and on all the many things I still need to accomplish.
